About the Tour

Melka Kunture (also spelled Melka Konture) is a prehistoric site on the southern face of the Awash River Gorge opposite Melka Awash. It is regarded as one of the most important Stone Age sites in Ethiopia, known for numerous artifacts unearthed along the river — including cleavers, hand axes, and other tools of basalt and hard rock — and for fossils of extinct mammals.
