About the Tour
The Tiya monuments are the remains of an ancient Ethiopian culture, standing between about 1 and 2 meters in height. Excavations have revealed an ancient cemetery with remains of males and females aged roughly 18 to 30. Dating to around the 15th century, the stelae are covered in symbols whose meaning remains unknown — including sword-like carvings unique to this site. Tiya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
